DaviesBaird produce castings in a range of highly corrosion resistant ferritic-austenitic stainless steels

DaviesBaird started as a foundry business in 1883 in the inner Melbourne suburb of Brunswick. Expansion and growth resulted in the establishment of a more up-to-date facility in Coburg in 1968, which has continued to modernise and adapt, providing our present efficient manufacturing facility.

Over the years we have accumulated a vast store of research data and practical experience in manufacturing ferrous castings for high specification engineered applications, in particular for:

Apart from supplying local and interstate customers within Australia, DaviesBaird, export to markets including North America and East Asia.

We specialise in the supply of pump and valve castings to major Original Equipment Manufacturers of engineered pumps and valves. Our supply can include finish machined and tested castings.

Another specialisation is in the manufacture of manganese steel castings for rail trackwork, with extensive machining and assembly facilities for these products. Our customers include end user Operators of Tram and Streetcar systems, and Original Equipment Manufacturers of turnouts, switches and crossings.

A new and exciting product range for us are cast runners for power generation turbines including Pelton and Francis runners.

DaviesBaird have 12 years experience making castings in Duplex and Super Duplex alloys, often used in pump casings and impellers. Our metallurgical procedures for these materials are thoroughly developed and produce a very high rate of “first time sound” castings. We are making these alloys increasingly frequently.

Our present day facilities produce a wide range of quality steel and alloy castings up to a maximum weight of 5000kg.  DaviesBaird have an experienced labour force who are skilled at jobbing work. We also have a mould production line for short runs of repetitive castings up to around 150kg mass. The alloys melted include mild, low alloy, high tensile, high alloy, wear resistant, corrosion resistant and heat resistant steels.

Our machine shop has a variety of milling and turning equipment, particularly capable of machining wear resistant steels.

We can supply patterns from a fully equipped pattern shop.

Testing facilities include spectrometer, ultrasonic, dye penetrant, magnetic particle and hardness testing. Our laboratory is certified by NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities of Australia) for tensile, bend and impact testing.

Quality certification is to ISO 9001:2000 and environmentally to ISO 14001:2004.
